Personalized body sculpting aftercare: first 72-hour care after your 60-minute session

By Atlas Bodyworks | August 8, 2026

The most important rule in the first 72 hours is simple: keep inflammation down. That means skipping intense workouts, hot baths or saunas, and long sun exposure, then leaning into hydration and gentle movement. After years of doing body refinement work in Fairfax, we’ve learned the little aftercare choices you make in the first couple of days are what keep your results looking clean and even.

60 minute Personalized Body Sculpting: First 72-Hour Care image

At Atlas Bodyworks on the Chain Bridge Road corridor near Fairfax Circle and Old Town Fairfax, our 60-minute Personalized Body Sculpting session is built around your goals and the tools that match them. In that one hour, we may combine Infinity Endermologie®, Venus Legacy, EndoLuxx Pro, LipoMax Sculpt, lymphatic drainage, or red light therapy. So your aftercare needs to match what we did, not what you saw on a random checklist online. Use this guide as your “first 72 hours” plan, then follow any specific notes your therapist gave you for your target areas.

First 24 hours: the “cool, clean, and calm” plan

Right after body sculpting, your body is doing a lot behind the scenes. Some people feel energized, some feel a little tender. Both can be normal. What matters is that you don’t stack extra stress on top of the work we just did.

Do

  • Drink plenty of water. This is the easiest way to support fluid movement after lymphatic-focused work.
  • Keep the treated area clean and dry, especially in summer humidity around Fairfax. Sweat can make you feel puffier and more irritated.
  • Do gentle walking. A short, easy walk usually helps more than total couch rest.
  • Use a cold compress for localized swelling. Think short rounds, not an hour of ice.

Don’t

  • Skip intense exercise, heavy lifting, and hard cardio for at least 24 hours. Your tissues need a quiet window.
  • Avoid hot baths, hot tubs, saunas, and steamy showers the first day. Heat tends to increase swelling.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 to 48 hours. It can add inflammation and dehydrate you.
  • Don’t bake in the sun or use tanning beds on treated areas. Sun plus inflammation is a rough combo.

If you scheduled your visit as a quick stop along Chain Bridge Road before or after your commute, keep the rest of your day simple. Comfortable clothes, water, and a normal dinner beats a “let me cram in a workout and a sauna” plan.

24 to 72 hours: light activity is fine, but skip heat and heavy sweat

This is the window where people sometimes overdo it because they “feel fine.” If your session included technologies used for contouring, smoothing, or drainage, your body still needs time to settle.

We generally recommend sticking to light movement, then easing back into your normal routine. Keep avoiding:

  • Hot tubs, pools, and saunas. Heat and soaking can irritate skin and raise swelling.
  • Prolonged sun exposure on treated areas.
  • Very tight, rubbing fabrics if you’re tender. Friction can make you feel more sore.
  • Aggressive self-massage unless we specifically told you to do it. Too much pressure too soon can backfire.

Fairfax summer tip: humidity makes swelling and sweat more noticeable. Cool showers (not hot), breathable clothing, and steady hydration usually keep things comfortable.

Days 4 to 7: what’s normal, what to avoid, and when results show up

A lot of people expect immediate “final” results after one session. Real talk: you may see an early change, but the longer-term contour tends to build over weeks, and sometimes over multiple sessions. That’s normal for body contouring work. Your body needs time to process fluid shifts and respond to the stimulation we used in your plan.

Normal post-session sensations

  • Mild soreness or tenderness in the treated area
  • Temporary swelling or puffiness
  • Light bruising, especially if you bruise easily
  • Numbness or a “different” sensation that fades as you recover

Still avoid (if you’re swelling)

If you’re still puffy, keep playing it smart for the rest of the week.

  • High heat exposure and long sauna sessions
  • Hard, high-impact training that spikes inflammation
  • “Let’s test it” deep tissue self-work on the area

A lot of our Fairfax clients come in to focus on cellulite smoothing, skin firming, contouring, or fluid retention. Those goals reward consistency. If your first session felt like a strong start, we’ll talk through timing for your next one so you don’t lose momentum.

Body sculpting aftercare habits that actually protect your result

You don’t need a complicated routine. You need the basics done well, especially if you’re juggling work, family, and a commute through the Chain Bridge Road corridor.

Hydration and food choices

Hydration supports the “de-puff” phase. If you can, keep salt and alcohol modest for the first couple of days. You don’t have to be perfect, just don’t sabotage your own work.

Compression and gentle massage

If we recommended compression, follow the timeline we gave you. Same for gentle massage or lymphatic support. These steps can make the difference between “I think I see it?” and “okay, I definitely see it.” If you’re not sure what you were told, ask. We’d rather you clarify than guess.

Skin care: keep it simple

Use a mild cleanser and a plain moisturizer. Skip harsh scrubs on the treated area for a few days, especially if you’re a little tender or bruised.

When to reach out to Atlas Bodyworks (and when it’s just normal healing)

Most post-session sensations are mild and temporary. But we take your safety seriously, and we want you to feel supported after you leave our Fairfax studio.

Reach out right away if you have:

  • Severe pain that doesn’t ease
  • Fever, chills, or feeling sick
  • Spreading redness, heat, or unusual swelling
  • Any sign of infection or an allergic-type reaction

If you’re simply sore, puffy, or lightly bruised, that’s usually part of the process. We’ll help you decide what’s normal, what needs a tweak in aftercare, and when to schedule your next session so your results keep building.

We generally recommend skipping intense exercise for at least the first 24 hours. Gentle walking is fine right away. From 24 to 72 hours, light activity is usually okay, but hold off on heavy lifting and hard cardio if you’re still sore or swelling.

You can usually shower, but keep it lukewarm the first day. We recommend avoiding hot baths, hot tubs, saunas, and very steamy showers for at least 24 to 48 hours because heat can increase swelling.

Some people notice a quick change, but most results build over the next few weeks. Final contouring often takes multiple sessions and a few months, depending on your starting point and the goals you’re working on.

It depends on what we worked on and what your body needs that day. If we recommend compression, follow the timing and fit guidance we give you after your session. If you’re unsure, reach out and we’ll confirm what’s best for your plan.
